Fox Mountain Trails Maintenance day December 17, 2011

On Saturday December 17th we will be having another clean up day on Fox mtn. A previous clean up earlier this month has cleared the main trail to Rustys cave. The goal of this clean up will be focused on repairing damage to the trail from heavy equipment used during the last clean up. Work additionally needs to be done on the trail to Cemetery pit to clean some smaller trees that have fallen across the trail as well as marking a portion of the repaired trail to Rusty's.

We will be meeting at 9:00 Eastern in the New Parking area for the Fox Mtn preserve. Additional parking is available at the Rising Fawn Church of Christ North of Sues Market on hwy 11. A shuttle to the new trail head will be provided if needed. The SCCi board has requested that Chainsaws be left at home for this clean up due to liability concerns. We will need shovels, rakes, bow saws and other hand tools. Pizza will be provided but drinks will not.

The Chattanooga Grotto's Christmas party will be held later that evening at Marty Abercrombies house near Trenton Ga.

Survey workshop 10/21/2011 at 6:00

Survey workshop this Friday at 6:00, we will be covering the basics of reading instruments, data management and sketching/book if we have enough time. We will be meeting at Maureens N.Chatt house (702 Franklin St) at 6:00 pm. Please let me know if your interested so I will know how many copies of stuff to make. 11/12/2011 Chattanooga Picnic and Auction

Our main annual fundraiser, the Grotto Picnic and Auction, will be held on Saturday, November 12 at 6:00 PM at Raccoon Mountain Caverns. So go through your closets and dig out that caving gear you never use anymore, or anything else you’d like to try to auction off and bring it with you to help support the Grotto. Hamburgers, hot dogs, etc. will be provide by the Grotto, but please bring a covered dish for the rest of the meal. To get there from downtown Chattanooga, take I-24 West to the Lookout Valley exit. Turn right and go approx. 1.3 miles to the big yellow sign with the raccoon on it and turn left (West Hills Drive). Follow this to the parking lot at the caverns entrance. The picnic and auction will be held under the pavilion on the patio.

October 2011: Volunteer, Survey Workshop, and Vertical trip to Neversink!

Hello everybody, there's a lot of stuff happening this month.

October 15&16 is the Nature Centers festival of pumpkins. As part of our agreement to use the meeting room we are in charge of the parking. we need volunteers for the hours of 1:00 to 9:00 on Saturday the 15th as well as from 1:00 to 6:00 on the 16th. There will be a sign up sheet at the meeting this evening or you can email me with the hours that you are free.

There will be a survey workshop at Maureen Handlers house in North Chattanooga on October 21st. This will cover the basics of reading survey instruments and data management. We will survey in a cave on the next Saturday.

Vertical trip to Neversink on Saturday October 29th. The SCCi limits the maximum number of people in one group to 12. There will be a sign up sheet at the meeting tonight.
